Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Chemical Engineering
This thesis develops a current sour water striping plant scheme into an energy efficient one with a minimum cost. This is achieved by studying the factors that affect stripping efficiency and finding their optimum values. The addition of new equipment such as a compressor was examined as well. Furthermore, energy integration is also utilized for maximum energy conservation and cost reduction. Egyptian environmental laws, regarding the treated sour water and off gas concentration, were complied. Seven Scenarios were created and they all satisfy the environmental criteria for treated sour water. It was found that the scenario 7 was the best economically. The importance of this research is emphasized due to its applications, not only in the petrochemical industry but even in any industry that produces sour water needed for treatment. For further research we could try to simulate HIDiC (internally heat-integrated distillation column) approach when handling the sour water stripping absorber subject
