Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of General Surgery Summary: Retroareolar tumors of the breast are tumors, which have been traditionally excluded from conservative treatment based on the uncertainty of local control and the assumed unacceptable aesthetic deterioration for the woman. Currently, central excision followed by irradiation offers the same guarantees as breast-sparing surgery in peripheral tumors with a 5-year recurrence rate under 8%. The percentage of BCS for central tumors increased from 28.8% in 2009 to 41.6% in 2012, along with the development of new surgical techniques. When performing traditional BCS for retroareolar breast tumors, the NAC and the tumor are excised en bloc, and the defect is closed by wedge excision or purse string suture. A large proportion of these women are dissatisfied with the cosmetic result
