Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Radio-diagnosis Summary: Hip arthroplasty is a common and effective operation with a high success rate. The purpose of this thesis is to demonstrate the role of computed radiography and multi-slice CT imaging in the assessment of the complicated hip arthroplasty. Postoperatively, serial plain radiographs remain the modality of choice to evaluate patients following arthroplasty. The technical assessment of the postoperative radiograph is considered, together with important landmarks and subsequent long-term changes. With proper imaging modification techniques, CT with its superior resolution and increased sensitivity can evaluate the joint and surrounding osseous and soft tissue structures. CT can assess subtle fractures and extent of osteolysis better than radiographs
