Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Clinical and Chemical Pathology Summary: The emergence of plasmid mediated quinolones resistance worldwide is acause for concern. Atotal of 100 clinical isolates of quinolone resistant Acinetobacter baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa out of 161 isolates were collected from Cairo University Hospital, Egypt, and screened for the plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance (PMQR) genes qnrA,qnrB,qnrC,qnrD,qnrS and aac(6{u2032})-Ib .The prevalence of quinolones resistant Acinetobacter baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa at Cairo University Hospitals was 84% and 45.6 % respectively. Most of our isolates came from patients admitted to intensive care units(57%) mostly from wound samples(44%) and male patients(53%). The PCR results of DNA showed 46% positivity for the aac (6{u2019})-Ib ,9% positivity for qnrA, 5% positivity for qnrD and 4 % for qnrS while, qnrB and qnrC genes were not detected in all our quinolone resistant isolates. Conclusion: Threats of MDR Acinetobacter baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa became of major concern at Cairo University Hospitals
