Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Radio-diagnosis Summary: Breast cancer is the most common malignant tumor among women. The purpose of all diagnostic modalities in breast cancer is early detection and proper diagnosis, which has its major impact on further management and prognosis. Breast tomosynthesis is a modification of digital mammographyto enable the acquisition of a three dimensional (3D) volume of thin section data, DBT gives more detailed information regarding characterization of the breast lesionTheclearer depiction with tomosynthesis should allow easier differentiation between benign and malignant lesions dual energy CEDM proved to have a higher diagnostic accuracy for the detection of breast carcinoma compared with mammography alone and with mammography interpreted in association with ultrasound dynamic contrast-enhanced MR imaging (DCE-MRI) is currently accepted as the most sensitive imaging technique for detection and diagnosis of breast cancer Our study evaluated the role of new mammographic techniques in detection and diagnosis of breast lesions compared it with DCE-MRI and correlated with the pathological results we also assessed their diagnostic accuracyregarding extension evaluation, multiplicity of the lesions and size assessment. In our study we found that DCE-MRI has the highest diagnostic accuracyregarding diagnosis and detection of breast lesions as well as detection of extension, multiple lesion ,and size assessment. The combined use of the new mammographic technique (DBT and CEDM) raises their diagnostic performance comparable to DCE-MRI and may be a reasonable alternarive to DCE-MRI, however DCE-MRI remains the most accurate method in detection, diagnosis and assessment of breast lesions
