Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Nursing - Department of Nursing Services Administration Summary: Background: Nursing staff are the nerve center of the health world and they play a pivotal role in the enlargement and the success of the healthcare sector. In recent years, it has been increasingly recognized that improving the performance of health personnel should be the core of any sustainable solution to health system performance. Aim: This study aimed to assess nursing staff' perception about factors affecting their performance in selected governmental hospitals in Egypt. Design: Descriptive cross- sectional design was utilized. Sample: Random samples of nursing staff were included according to the criteria of inclusion. Setting: The study was conducted in three governmental hospitals affiliated to Ministry of Health in Egypt. Tools: Data was collected using a questionnaire developed by the investigator to investigate factors affecting on nursing staff ' performance from their perception. Results: Based on six factors affecting on nursing staff ' performance, the finding indicated that, the nursing staff perceived that, the most factors affecting on their performance was supervision (99.1%), then motivation (95.71%) and nursing performance evaluation system (92.36). While, the least factor affecting on nursing staff ' performance was hospital policies (81.68%). The finding of the study indicated that, there was a positive correlation statistically significant between availability of motivation and it effect on nursing staff ' performance (P =0.03). While, there was a negative correlation statistically significant between availability of hospital policies and its effect on nursing staff ' performance (P= 0.002)
