Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Nursing - Department of Psychiatric Nursing Summary: Emotional intelligence plays a vital role in determining life success during adolescence, on the other side, adjustment is an essential aspects of one`s life. Sighted and visually impaired adolescent who adjust himself in every situation or environment can never fall in his life as compared to those who find it difficult to adjust themselves in different situations. Therefore, this study aimed to assess emotional intelligence and adjustment among visually impaired and sighted female adolescents. Also this study aimed to find out the relationship between emotional intelligence and adjustment of visually impaired and sighted female adolescents. A descriptive comparative design was utilized in the current study. A purposive sample of 120 female adolescents (60 with visual impairment and 60 sighted adolescents) was selected from El-Noor and Amal school for the Blind female and El Sanya prep /secondary school at El Sayeda Zeinab. Three tools were used, structured adolescent general profile questionnaire , adolescent adjustment scale and emotional intelligence scale. Findings revealed that statistical significance differences were found between the studied visually impaired and sighted female adolescents as regards total emotional intelligence and it`s subscales except for general mood. also, statistical significance differences were found between the studied visually impaired and sighted female adolescents as regards total adjustment and it`s subscales except for personal and family adjustment. Also, statistical significant correlations were found between total emotional intelligence and it`s subscales and total adjustment and its subscales among the studied visually impaired and sighted female adolescents.
