Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Graduate Studies for Education - Department of Curriculum and Methods of Teaching Summary: The present study investigates the effect of a strategy based on the Quest Learning (QL) approach for developing first year preparatory school pupils' reading comprehension skill. The participants of the study consisted of a group of sixty first year preparatory pupils selected from Amr Ibn-Elaas experimental school. The participants were assigned to an experimental and a control group (thirty students in each group). A reading comprehension checklist and a pre-post reading comprehension test were used to collect the data of the study. The proposed strategy was implemented for three months and it included nine units basically designed as web-based quests, Videoclip-based quests and infographicbased quests. The results revealed that the experimental group outperformed the control group. The results also revealed that the proposed QBL strategy had a large effect on developing EFL reading comprehension skill, in general, and the sub-skills of 'getting the main idea' and 'identifying the meaning of new words', in particular
