This study was designed to investigate the influence of eugenol containing temporary cement on bonding total-etch versus self-adhesive resin cements to dentin.Thirty freshly extracted sound upper incisors of approximate equal dimensions were selected. The Labial surfaces of the selected teeth were prepared using chamfer finish bur. This is to ensure the removal of the enamel layer with standardized measurements of preparation with copious coolant. A thin mix of clear acrylic resin was prepared and poured into the mold. Each prepared tooth was placed in the mold, exposing its labial surfaces. The specimens were randomly divided into three groups (n = 10) according to the type of temporary cements applied to the labial dentin surface: Group I: Control group (prepared teeth not cemented with temporary cements).Group II: prepared teeth cemented with temporary cement containing eugenol . Group III: prepared teeth cemented with free-eugenol temporary cement. Each group was subdivided into two subgroups (A and B) according to the type of the permenant cements applied: Subgroup (A): Total {u2013} etch resin cement.Subgroup (B): Self {u2013} adhesive resin cement.A circular interface shear test was designed to evaluate the bond strength. All samples were individually and horizontally mounted on a computer controlled materials testing machine (Model LRX-plus; Lloyd Instruments Ltd., Fareham, UK) with a loadcell of 5 kN and data were recorded using computer software (Nexygen-MT; Lloyd Instruments). Conclusions:Under the limitations of this study, the following conclusions could be detected: Eugenol containing temporary cement has no adverse effect on the bond strength. Total etch resin cement is more appropriate than self-adhesive resin cement in term of high bond strength
