Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Institute of Statistical Studies and Research - Department of statistics and Econometrics Summary: The main objective for designing optimal experiments is to find an ideal design that could result in appropriate inferences about model parameters by conducting an experiment using this design. One of the first to state criteria and obtain optimum experimental designs for regression problems of statistical inference was Smith (1918). An optimality criterion showed how good a design is and it is maximized or minimized by an optimal design. In this Thesis, which consists of four chapters, we will outline the basic aims of optimality criteria and Taguchi method. In the basic concepts Chapter 1, a review of experimental and optimal designs as well as their estimation methods are given. definitions used for these designs that are going to be used throughout this thesis are presented. Moreover, Taguchi method and its definitions and framework are introduced. Chapter 2 has been divided in to two sections: the first offers a review on the Optimal Design Criteria, while the second section gives a brief review on the Taguchi Method. In Chapter 3, dealed with optimality criteria, and shows the Comparison Of Two Designs for Multiple Regression Model Designs Under Optimality Criteria. Chapter 4, a review on the Taguchi Methods is presented and applied on an example to determine the optimum level or combination of the production factors as well as the optimum production volume using the Regression Analysis
