Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Civil Engineering Summary: This study was conducted in order to propose changes to the seismic design provisions of reinforced concrete framed structures in ECP-203, 2007. The study proposes two main changes to the seismic design provisions of framed structures in the Egyptian code ECP-203, 2007. The first change is utilizing capacity-based design rule in the design of structural members against shear forces in frames with limited ductility. The second change is introducing a new type of framed structures which is designed without applying any special consideration for ductility using a relatively high seismic design force (R=3). The study also examines three important issues related to the proposed changes on the design of framed structures. The study has been submitted to the relevant committee of the Egyptian code for design and construction of concrete structures (ECP-203) and was adopted in the Egyptian code for design and construction of concrete structures ECP-203, 2017
