Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Radio-diagnosis Summary: Skin lesions are one of the later medical disciplines to use imaging techniques: as they are visible to the naked eye or through a magnifying glass, allowing clinical diagnosis with no invasive examination, or they can easily be biopsied or removed for histological study. This approach has therefore remained the basis of clinic-pathological diagnosis of skin diseases for a long time . Yet it is important for dermatologists to recognize the clinical scenarios where imaging is indicated in the management of skin and subcutaneous lesions. Like suspicious malignant lesions, large or aggressive high-risk tumors, tumors that compromise vital anatomic structures, lesions with possible bony and orbital invasion. Imaging also may be needed in assessment of the extent of tumor invasion in soft tissue, staging of lymph nodes and metastatic disease, evaluation for potential perineural spread and post-operative surveillance for recurrent disease
