Background:Surgical treatment of Hirschsprung's disease has evolved from multistage procedures to a single-stage approach.Transanal Swenson and Soave techniques have become the standard operations in the management of HSD. The aim of this study is to compare the outcomes following the transanal Swenson and Soave procedures. Patients and Methods:A prospective randomized control studyincluding twenty patients regardless their age.Patients were selected from infants and children visiting the outpatient clinic of Cairo University Specialized Pediatric Hospital, CUSPH, with proven tissue diagnosis of HSD. The Patients were randomly allocated to either group A ;ten patients underwent transanal Swenson's or group B; ten patients operated by transanal Soave technique. Results: Twenty patients (10 patients undergone Swenson, 10 undergone Soave) diagnosed with HSD were enrolled. Mean(SD) age of patients at the time of pullthrough procedure was 12 (11.1) months in Swenson group and 9.7(5.4) months in Soave group (p value =0.55). Mean follow-up time was4.6±0.7months and 4.2±0.8months for the Swenson and Soave groups, respectively. No significant differences in postoperative obstructive symptoms (2 vs 1, p value = 1.00), enterocolitis episodes (3vs2, p value = 0.606) were noted.No significant differences were seen in mean operating time (Swenson: 136.5, Soave:142, p value=0.523),Overall hospital stay (4.3±1.3vs 4±0.8, p value= 0.246). Conclusion:There were no signi{uFB01}cant differences in the short and intermediate termoutcome between transanal Swenson and Soave pullthrough procedures
