Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Science- Department of Organic Chemistry Summary: The aim of present study was the uses a series of Ü, Ý-unsaturated carbonyl compounds (chalcones), in the synthesis of pyridine, pyran, thiophene, thiazole derivatives together with their uses in heterocyclic synthesis. The work has resulted in the synthesis of a variety of 2,5-dihydropyridine derivatives, 6-hydropyridine derivatives, hydrazide-hydrazon derivatives, thiophene derivatives, coumarin derivatives, pyran derivatives, thiazole-6-one derivatives, thiazolo[4,5-b]pyran derivatives, thiazolo[4,5-d]thiazole derivatives, thiazole-2-hydrazidohydrazone derivatives. The antitumor activities of the newly synthesized product was evaluated against cancer
