Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Science - Department of Biophysics Summary: Chitosan films were prepared by casting technique and irradiated by (60Co) source of Þ-rays with different doses 5,10,15, 20 and 25 kGy to improve their properties to be used as a wound healing material. Characterization of the chemical structure of the irradiated Cs films was by Fourier Transformer Infrared (FTIR) indicating that Þ-irradiation caused depolymerization of the chitosan without changing its chemical structure and without affecting the degree of deacetylation. Different physical properties (mechanical, dielectric and degradation) of the irradiated films were examined. It was concluded that irradiating chitosan films at dose of 5 kGy had the optimum for the properties of chitosan films and promising to be used in the application of wound healing
