Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Dental Public Health Summary: This observational descriptive cross sectional survey was designed to assess the awareness of Egyptian General Dental Practitioners regarding prevention and early detection for oral cancer. Of the 1000 questionnaire distributed to GDP in Cairo governorate, 849 forms were answered; 18 of them were incomplete so they were discarded and the rest were 831 fully answered questionnaires representing a response rate of 83.1 %.From the 831 only 600 collected from 46 different healthcare facilities while the rest were collected from: Two scientific days for dentists working in ministry of health held by Directorate of Health Affairs in Cairo governorate at which 121 questionnaires were collected. The number of dentists who answered the online copy of the questionnaire about 218 dentist. Only 110 of them were GDP working in ministry of health and the rest answers were excluded. The questionnaire aimed assessing the awareness of General Dental Practitioners (GDP) regarding the problem of oral cancer in Egypt, prevention and early detection of the disease through predesigned 5groups of questions. A descriptive data analysis was performed to obtain the frequencies and percentages for answers of the questions. In general, the descriptive analysis suggested lack of sufficient awareness of general dental practitioners regarding the problem of oral cancer in Egypt.More attention should be paid for developing the continuing education courses and also the dental school curricula should be modified to place greater emphasis on oral cancer prevention and early detection
