Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Neropsychiatry Summary: The study assessed non-psychotic first-degree relatives' performance on emotional intelligence and mentalization.Method: Thirty first-degree relatives, thirty schizophrenia patients and thirty healthy controls' performance was compared.Results: Relatives had significantly lower scores than controls. Nevertheless, schizophrenia patientsstill had the poorest global performance. Positive correlations were found in relatives andcontrols with measures of general cognition. Conclusions: non-psychotic first-degree relatives of schizophrenia patients performed better than their schizophrenia relatives and worse than healthy controls
