Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Science - Department of Biochemistry Summary: The main objective of our study is the design, fabrication and characterization of electrospun bioresorbable composites matrices for localized and controlled ciprofloxacin delivery. They were proposed for effective management of bone regeneration and associated infections. Ciprofloxacin loaded bioresorbable nanofiber mats based on, the poly({u03F5}-caprolactone)(PCL)/poly (Nvinyl- 2-pyrrolidone) (PVP)composite and modified by the addition of phosphate glass nanoparticles ,were prepared by electrospinning . Phosphate based glasses nanoparticles incorporated with different La₂O₃ contents (0, 5 and 10 mol. %) were prepared successfully by a modified alkoxide sol gel method. They were coded as P, PL5 and PL10 respectively. The obtained glasses were characterized by different analytical techniques, such as, x-ray diffraction analysis(XRD), Thermogravimetric and differential scanning calorimetric analyses (TGA/DSC), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transformer infrared spectrophotometer (FTIR) and energy dispersive xray spectroscopy analysis (EDX). Textural properties, such as specific surface area, total pore volume and average pore size were evaluated by the high-speed gas sorption analyzer
