Phosphate fertilizer industry is considered as one of the main sources of environmental pollutants. Besides solid waste products, e.g. phosphates, sulphates, and heavy metals, also atmospheric pollutants, such as sulphur dioxide (SO₂), nitrogen oxides (NO₂), particulate matter with diameter up to 10 om (PM₁₀), and hydrofluoric acid fumes (HF) are a serious problem that influences the structure and functioning of ecosystems. The levels of Cd, Pb, Zn, Cu, sulphates and phosphates were measured in soil, plant, and water samples from four sites: a control, that was established at 32 km from the source of pollution and polluted sites that were {u2264} 1, 3 and 6 km (sites A{u2013}C) away from the Abu-Zaabal Fertilizer Company. The highest concentrations of Cu and Zn were found in the soil, plant, and water from site A. Monitoring of possible impact of fertilizer industry pollutants was assessed using parameters such as hydrogen peroxide concentration (H₂O₂), superoxide anion production rate (O₂⁻), DNA strand breaks, protein carbonyls amount, lipid peroxides concentration, levels of non-enzymatic, and antioxidant enzymatic system. The potential use of comet assay, protein carbonylation, and lipid peroxidation as a biomonitoring method of environmental pollution was proposed. The concentration of H₂O₂, and production rate of O₂⁻ in the brain, thoracic muscles and gut of the males, females, and 5 {u036D} {u036A} instar of Aiolopus thalassinus from sites A are significantly increased than control site. Strong negative correlation between percentage of cells with visible DNA damage (% of severed cells) and the distance of the sites from fertilizer factory was found
