Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Operative Dentistry Summary: This study was conducted to evaluate micro-tensile bond strength of resin composite to superficial dentin treated with Gold and Silver Nano particles in comparison to untreated dentin surface either immediately or after aging of samples by thermocycling. Materials and methods: Thirty six extracted sound human molars were selected then stored in distilled water at room temperature till the beginning of the experiment. The teeth were randomly divided into two main groups eighteen teeth each (A) according to the applied materials. The first group (A1) was for resin composite with adhesive on etched dentin (control group); while the second group (A2) was for resin composite with adhesive system and nano care gold on etched dentin (Intervention group). Each main group was further sub divided into three subgroups, six teeth each (B) according to number of thermocycles performed for samples where (B1) was not subjected to thermocycling, (B2) was subjected to 2500 thermo-cycles and (B3) was subjected to 5000 thermo-cycles. The proximal enamel of each tooth was grinded to determine DEJ then the occlusal enamel was removed up till 1mm below DEJ to expose the superficial dentin. Resin composite with adhesive was then applied on etched dentin for group A1 while resin composite with adhesive and nano care gold were applied on etched dentin for group A2. The resin/teeth samples were sectioned using automated diamond saw (Isomet 4000) to get 4 composite/dentin beams (0.9 mm {u00D7} 0.9 mm) from each tooth. The beams were tested for microtensile bond strength by universal testing machine after storage for 1 day in distilled water either with or without thermocycling (2500, 5000) and the failure mode was recorded in all groups 55
