The present study aimed at investigating the English language skills needed by the engineers to fulfill their work successfully. Data collection was carried out by means of a questionnaire, and semi-structured interview on a sample consisting of 180 petroleum engineers, as well as analyzing the content of a course book. The results revealed that the English language courses introduced did not meet the participants needs. It was also found that reading and writing skills were the most important skills needed for petroleum engineers in their work place, while speaking and listening skills came second in importance.
