Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Science - Department of Physics Summary: The Gamma spectrometer based on the hyper pure germanium (HPGe) detectors is commonly used to identify the radionuclide and determine its specific activity concentrations in natural and artificial samples. In order to determine the specific activity of different radioactive elements in any sample with high accuracy and high confidence level, extreme care must be considered while establishing the energy and efficiency calibration of the gamma spectrometer. By this study one aim to investigate the effect of density matrix of the standard sources, type and volume of the detectors, electronics and cooling system connected to the detector, on the performance of the gamma spectrometer and on the obtained results
