Research begins by defining the space and then studying its components, classification and importance. The study then proceeds to study the concept of place, its characteristics and types; then study the humanistic theories of the behaviors, needs and activities and their impact on the open space; and then deduce the design criteria for making place. After that, the research deals with examples of international spaces and then applying a local Egyptian example to evaluate the performance of the urban space through the criteria developed and how to use them to develop the urban spaces
