Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Institute of Statistical Studies and Research - Department of Statistics and Econometrics Summary: Ranked set sampling method (RSS) is one of the methods that can be used to precise estimates of population parameters with minimum cost and expenditure. It uses additional information from the population to provide more structure to the data collection process and decreases the likelihood of an unrepresentative sample. The aim of the study is discussed the ranked set sampling methods for estimate the population mean and defined the mean and the variance of each case in these methods. Also, suggest a new ranked set sampling method with determine the mean and the variance of this method. Finally, compare all variances of the ranked set sampling methods to find the better method This thesis is organized as follows: Chapter (1) Some known definitions of some general statistical terminologies and basic concepts are reviewed which will be needed in next chapters. Chapter (2) The review of literature for the development of ranked set sampling methods for symmetric and asymmetric distributions have been introduced. Chapter (3) Studied the ranked set sampling methods and defined the mean and the variance of each case in the methods with illustrative examples for each method. Chapter (4) Displayed a new sampling method named median double ranked set sample. The properties of this method for estimating the population mean are discussed. Also, an illustrative examples are mentioned. Chapter (5) A simulation study has been constructed to compare between the ranked set sampling methods for different sample sizes and different distributions
