Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Urology Summary: Objective: This study was designed to compare the post operative outcome of repairing distal penile hypospadias cases using snodgrass (TIP) operation by vicryl 6.0 vs PDS 6.0. Patients and methods: Prospective, comparative, single blinded, randomized controlled trial was conducted at Cairo university specialized pediatric hospital (CUSPH), urology department on 69 male children aged between 8 and 120 months, diagnosed with distal penile hypospadias between June 2017 and February 2018, The patients were divided into 2 groups, group (A) vicryl (39) patients and group (B) PDS (30) patients, all patients were uncircumcised with no chordee and both testes felt inside the scrotum with accepted penile, glans penis and urethral plate sizes for age. All patients underwent correction by Snodgrass (TIP) procedure. They were catheterized for 10 days and follow up was done in urology outpatient clinic at days 3, 10, 30, and 90 postoperative. Results: the mean age at presentation in group (A) was 49.05(±31.901) months and 30.90(±23.694) months in group (B). The mean duration of catheterization in group (A) was 8.54(±1.519) days and in group (B) was 9.00(±2.600) days. The duration of operation in group (A) was 119.56(±12.433) minutes and in group (B) was 119.90(±10.053) minutes. All patients had penile sizes within normal range for age. All patients had distal penile hyposapdias and all had accepted shape of the urethral plate. Rate of fistula was 10.15% (7/69) with p value 0.972. Rate of wound dehiscence was 5.8% (4/69) with p value 0.786
