Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Pharmacy - Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology Summary: The present study aimed to examine the ability of cilostazol, taurine & telluric acid to alleviate LPS-induced renal dysfunction, inflammation and oxidative stress and compare them to dexamethasone. Kidneys of mice pretreated with the aforementioned agents exhibited amelioration of oxidative stress as manifested by decreased TBARS parallel to increased GSH renal contents, enhanced Nrf2 mRNA expression and HO-1 activity. Attenuated renal inflammation was manifested by a decline of TLR4/ MyD88 gene expression and/or downstream NF-mB and IL-1Ý renal contents. A notable activation of PI3K/Akt signaling was also noted following pretreatment with the tested agents. This was associated with a decrease in serum creatinine and cystatin C levels as well as renal KIM-1 and NGAL contents, in addition to improvement of renal histopathologic insults
