Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Nursing - Department of Community Health Nursing Summary: Oral diseases are a global public health issue. The aim of the current study was to assess dental nursing care knowledge and practice provided among nurses working at primary Health Care setting. Also, propose a training program based on nurses{u2019} knowledge and practice. A cross sectional survey study design was utilized to attain the aim of the study. The study sample consisted of a convenient sample of all nurses (112 nurses) working at the dental clinic at PHC setting located in Cairo governorate. Two tools were developed by the researcher. First tool: Nurses oral& dental health knowledge questionnaire. Second tool: Nurses' practices observational check-list.it included 2 parts. The study results indicated that, the majority of nurses have low total knowledge and practice scores regarding oral & dental health. The majority of nurses didn{u2019}t receive any dental health topics neither in their academic education nor in their nursing carrier. Significant relationship was found between knowledge regarding oral health promotion and nurses years of experience at dental clinic nurses. Also significant relationship was detected between total practice scores, and nurses{u2019} previous training. The study concluded that dental nursing care knowledge and practice were lacking among nurses working at primary dental clinic. High statistically significant relationship was found between total knowledge and total practice scores related to oral and dental nursing care. Current study recommended a proposed training program for nurses working at primary dental clinic to improve their knowledge and practice regarding oral and dental nursing care. The program will need to be tested for its effectiveness. Results of the study also recommended integration of oral and dental health into nursing curriculum
