Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Institute of African Research and Studies - Department of Natural Resources Summary: Soils undergosalinity hazard are one of theavailable natural resourcesto increasethe cultivation areain Egypt. The aim of this study was the assessment of soil salinity both of El- Tina plain and Wadi Elnatrun areas that can be applied using digital indices based on different techniques of spatial analysis using GIS software and satellite images. The main chemical and physical properties were studied in these study areas for the sake of tentative evaluation of these soils. As for Eltina plain area, soil texture varied from sandy loam to clay. Soil salinity was slightly to very strongly saline. Soil pH tended to range from neutral to highly alkaline. Organic matter contents was generally lower than 2.3%. Soil content of CaCO₃ and gypsum were very low. Cation exchange capacity varied between 16.50-36.80 Cmolc kg⁻¹ depending on the soil texture. In this study, four linear regression models for predicting CEC of soil from some soil physical and chemical properties were suggested i.e. sand, silt, clay, organic mater, Bulk density g/cm³ and ESP% of soil
