Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Pharmacy - Department of Analytical Chemistry
This thesis focuses on the quantitative determination of two non-classical Ý-lactam drugs namely; meropenem (MP) and ertapenem (EP). In this study; various analytical techniques were adopted namely; voltammetric, spectrophotometric and fluorimetric methods to quantify MP and EP in their drug substances, pharmaceutical doasage forms, spiked biological fluids and in presence of their different corresponding degradants. In part (I): General introduction and literature review were presented. In part (II): Voltammetric methods using classical and improved electrodes were developed to determine MP and EP in presence of their different degradants. In part (III): Different stability-indicating spectrophotometric methods were proposed to determine MP and EP separately from their different degradants. In part (IV): Fluorimetric methods were proposed to determine MP and EP in nano-level via chelation with different metals in their pharmaceutical vials, spiked human plasma. Bio-analytical method validation was done. In part (V): Greenness evaluation results of the developed methods were compared applying NEMI labeling and Analytical Eco-Scale methods. General conclusion was performed after each part which focused on the major advantages and the main benefits of the suggested methods. Comparative study of all the suggested methods of analysis for MP and EP was finally introduced
