Objectives : The aim of the study is todetermine whether Hyoscine butyl bromide as an antispasmodic shortensthe active phase of first stage of labourfor the management of prolonged labor in Nulliparous women at term, without an increase in maternal orneonatal complications . Methods : A total of 100 pregnant females diagnosed with active stage oflabourwere enrolled prospectively,all of those patients presented during the period from February to August2018 to Kasr-Al Ainy Obstetrics emergency department, divided into 2 equal groups and were subjected to injection with Hyoscine butyl bromide 20 mg first dose at the time of amniotomy, and second dose 2 hours after versus injection of normal saline (same volume) first dose at the time of amniotomy, and second dose 2 hours after.The following was studiedthe duration of active phase of first stage of labor ,rate of cervical dilatation(cm/h) and doses of oxytocin,Caesarean section rate for failure to progress, duration of the 2nd stage of labor, 3rd stage of labour as well as maternal and fetal adverse effects (tachycardia, hypotension,drymouth,NICU admission)
