Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Anaesthesia Summary: Acute kidney injury (AKI) in pediatrics with congenital heart diseases is a frequent complication after open heart surgery .Its incidence is reported to be between 30-64%.Age, bypass time and RACHS-1 score are among various risk factors for the development of AKI ; however, sufficiently sensitive and specific early markers of renal injury have not been consistently defined. Somatic NIRS reflects adequacy of tissue perfusion. We postulated that renal rSO2 monitoring might have prognostic value for monitoring perioperative kidney function. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between renal oximetry and development of AKI in the operative and post-operative setting in infants undergoing cardiopulmonary bypass surgery. The study aims also to approve efficacy of dexmedetomidine in decreasing the incidence of AKI in those patients
