Giardia lamblia is considered one of the most common protozoal parasites in humans. It is the causative agent of giardiasis, a major cause of diarrheal illness. The present study was conducted on 54 laboratory hamsters breed in theodore bilharz research Institute to evaluate the effect of lactobacillus casei, lactobacillus yogurt and curcumin on G. lamblia infection versus the commercially used drug Metronidazole in experimentally infected animals. Parasitological and histopathological assessments of the drug effect were done. Parasitological assessment was done using iodine staining of stool samples collected from hamster and histopathological assessment was done by examining sections of the duodenum using hematoxylin and Eosin stain. Results revealed reduction in the number of G.lamblia cysts shedded in the 30th day of treatment were 100% for lactobacillus casei, 100% for lactobacillus yogurt and 87.80% for curcumin compared to infected non-treated group .While metronidazole treated group showed percentage of reduction 78.40%. The histopathological examination of sections from duodenum also revealed remarkable significant improvement in the groups treated with lactobacillus casei, lactobacillus yogurt and significant improvement in the curcumin treated groups compared to metronidazole treated group and infected non treated group
