Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Forensic Medicine-Toxicology
Background: Copper nanoparticles received considerable attention because of their unique physical and chemical properties distinct from the bulk materials for this reason it was used in various medical and non-medical applications. Objectives: The aim of the current study is to identify the toxic effect of copper nanoparticles on liver and kidney and to study the potential protective effect of alpha lipoic acid against hepato-nephrotoxicity induced by copper nanoparticles. Animals and Methods: In the current study, 100 adult male albino rats were classified into 4 main groups: Group 1is the negative control group, group 2 was treated with CNPs and was classified into 2 subgroups one of them was to study the toxic effects of CNPs and the other was allowed to recover from CNPs toxicity for 4 weeks (follow up group), group 3 was treated with ALA and group 4 was treated with CNPs and ALA as a prophylaxis for 90 consecutive days. The study design was approved from the local ethical committee of faculty of medicine, Cairo university and from Cairo university institutional animal care and use committee (CU- IACUC), medical science sector
