Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Institute of African Research and Studies - Department of Natural Resources
The greatest challenge facing Egypt is creation of new communities in new areas, especially with rapid increasing in human population. Egypt has a great amount of desert land all over the country, Geological and geophysical investigations in the Qattara Depression indicate the presence of buried fluvial channels with southeast to northwest flow directions from high land areas. Moghra is an area at the northeastern tip of the Qattara Depression that is remnant of a larger paleolake. Assessment of Moghra aquifer system has a great importance as it has specially characters like good types of soils beside different types of aquifers from groundwater. The study area far away from this lake about 37 km from the west, nearest from the petroleum road, covers 72703 acres. It lies between Latitudes 30{u00B0} 03'{u2013} 30{u00B0} 12' N and Longitudes 28{u00B0} 22' {u2013} 28{u00B0} 32' E. The present study aims mainly to investigate the hydrogeological characteristics of Lower Miocene aquifer by using geophysical methods and examins the chemical characteristics of the extracted water by an Analyzing groundwater samples collected from 140 productive wells to determine major cations and anions
