Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Institute of Statistical Studies and Research - Department of of Information Systems and Technology
It is widely acknowledged in the literature that requirements are critical for the success of software projects. Requirements Engineering (RE) is an essential part of software development processes, especially in the system analysis phase. It is concerned with improving knowledge acquisition and knowledge sharing that allow more complete understanding of the application domain constraints and stakeholder needs. In order to achieve these goals, researchers have started exploring the potential of some widely adopted software engineering tools and methodologies, namely Model Driven Requirements Engineering (MDRE). Modeling helps in elicitation phase by forcing participants to focus on the specific part of the system under study. Modeling goals helps stakeholder to identify goal conflicts during requirements capturing. The application domain of the thesis is Serious Educational Games (SEGs) in higher education. SEGs are video games which have a purpose not merely entertainment; they have educational objectives to be achieved during the game play. In the literature there are promising results of using SEGs.They capture players{u2019} (learners{u2019}) concentration for a long time, offer them practicing what they have learnt. However, their analysis and design require integrating educational design concepts with the game design activities. They involve an interdisciplinary team, with roles such as game designer, game programmer, game artist, quality assurance expert, and domain expert in the specific educational subject area
