Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Oral (Radiology and diagnosis)
Measurements of the maxillofacial region need detailed examination and precise evaluation during planning for surgical intervention to anticipate the functional, aesthetic, and psychosocial outcomes of the intended plan. (2) Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) has been widely accepted in the different oral and maxillofacial applications due to its three dimensional property and isotropic nature. It can also be accurately used for taking the various maxillofacial measurements. (3) CBCT 3D volume rendering images and models can be used in numerous dental fields, such as implant construction, orthodontics and orthognathic surgery so, it is necessary to analyze the accuracy of data obtained when performing the linear measurements on CBCT different images. (4) The current study was conducted on fifteen dry human mandibles where ten anatomical landmarks on each mandible were marked with a permanent marker and gutta percha cones were glued on them. Ten linear measurements were taken and recorded from each mandible using a digital caliper and these direct linear measurements were considered as the gold standard. The mandibles included in this study were covered with twenty layers of pink modelling wax to simulate soft tissue attenuation and they were scanned using Planmeca ProMax 3D Mid CBCT machine. CBCT images were exported in DICOM format and then imported in ONDEMAND 3D software; linear measurements had been done using computer program ONDEMAND ruler. DICOM format converted to STL file. These files are used for rapid prototyping and fabrication of the models
