Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Pharmacy - Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology Summary: Introduction: Augmentation of angiotensin II (Ang II) signaling with the subsequent overproduction of the reactive oxygen species (ROS) has been documented to be involved in the pathogenesis of the diabetes-induced cardiovascular complications. Objective: This study aimed to assess the potential impact of long-term treatment with the angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor blockers, valsartan or losartan, on the cardiovascular complications associated with diabetes in comparison with the classical antidiabetic drug, metformin. We have also evaluated the changes in cardiac, pancreatic, hepatic and renal tissue contents of some trace elements which could affect oxidative status
