Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Radio-diagnosis Summary: Functional MRI of the mediastinum can be used as a virtual noninvasive biopsy with diagnostic potential to differentiate between benign and malignant mediastinal masses. The current study showed that the ADC values of malignant mediastinal lesions were significantly lower than those of benign lesions and hence determined an ADC cut off values to differentiate between them. Similarly, the current study found that chemical shift sequences together with calculated chemical shift ratio and signal intensity index were highly specified diagnostic tools for differentiating thymic lesions
