Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty Of Engineering - Department Of Chemical Engineering
This study was carried out in the framework of an integrated modeling and simulation of a metal hydride reactorA two - dimensional heterogeneous transient heat and mass transfer model was developed to simulate the dynamic phenomena of hydrogen absorption / desorption stages in the metal hydride bedLaNi5 was chosen as the alloy used for hydrogen storageThe solution of the mathematical model which included a system of partial differential equations together with non - linear algebraic equations ; was conducted based on central finite difference discretization technique as well as with Newton method , and the numerical calculation of the Jacobian matrixThe numerical simulation was used to present the time - space evolution of metal and hydrogen temperatures , fractional conversion , hydrogen gas pressure and velocity , in addition to metal densityThermophysical properties of metal hydrides in this model were allowed to vary with the extent of the reactionThe simulation platform was Aspen Custom Modeler (ACM) , a component of the Aspen Engineering Suite (AES)
