The prevalence of carbapenem resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) is on the rise worldwide, posing a major public health threat as well as a serious concern for infection control management. The aim of the current study is to detect the prevalence of CRE in different clinical isolates using disk diffusion screening test followed by phenotypic and genotypic confirmatory tests at TBRI hospital during the study period and to evaluate the performance of MASTDISCS ID carbapenemase detection disk set (Enterobacteriaceae) combined with temocillin disk for detection of carbapenemase production in comparison to PCR assay. Two thousand six hundred and ninety five samples were collected at Theodor Bilharz Research Institute hospital departments as well as the outpatient clinic
