Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Physical Therapy - Department of Musculoskeletal Disorders Summary: Background: Total Knee Replacement(TKR) is one of the most successful orthopedic procedures. However, approximately 10 percent of patients complain of pain similar to or worse than initial pre-operative complaints. Myofascial release (MFR) restorse optimal length, decrease tone & pain and improves function, vascular and lymphatic circulation.Despite this theoretical basis, no study has evaluated effects of MFR onpain and function post TKR. Objective: To investigate effects of MFR on pain and function in patients post TKR. Methods:We randomized fifty patients (male and female) post TKRby sealed envelopes method into 2 groups: group A (n=25) received MFR and exercises, while group B (n=25) received exercises only. Group differences were assessed by using unpaired t-tests.Results:There was a significant improvement in pain, function and MTrPs PPTpost treatment compared to pre treatment in both group A & B. While there was significant differences between the two groups and these significant differenceswere in favor to group A compared to group B
