Ciprofloxacin is a broadspectrum antibiotic of the fluoroquinolone class. Because fluroquinolones are mainly used now for the treatment of urinary tract infections which have high incidence during pregnancy especially in the first trimester, and because fluroquinolones exert their effects via inhibition of nucleic acid synthesis, therefore this study was designed to evaluate the safety of the ciprofloxacin drug on development of offspring of albino rat during pregnancy .Pregnant albino rats (Rattus norvegicus) were administrated daily oral dose of 155mg/ Kg of body weight of ciprofloxacin from 5th day to 20th day of gestation. The animals were sacrificed at 20thday of gestation. Fetuses were removed from the uterus and evaluated for mortality rate, growth parameters, morphological and skeletal malformations as well as histopathological studies of brain, liver and kidney
