Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Medical Biochemistry Summary: Lichen Planus (LP) is a dermatological disease affecting skin &{u2044}or mucous membranes. It is a common T cell-mediated chronic in{uFB02}ammatory disease, which has been hypothesized that T cell autophagy is involved in the immunopathogenesis of oral lichen planus (OLP). Beclin-1 plays an important role in a critical step of the autophagic process. Heat shock proteins (HSP) being the molecular chaperones, their transcription is activated in response to various stressors and plays an important role in Endoplasmic reticulum stress (ER stress) pathway. HSPs probably represent the antigenic proteins that may potentially be involved in both the initiation and the persistence of the autoimmune lymphocytic response of lichen planus. GRP78( glucose regulated potein 78) is one of the HSP; ATF6 (activated transcription factor6) is one of ER stress pathway sensors. This study aims at detecting the level of autophagy and ER stress proteins in lichen planus
