The majority of developing countries are suffering from the lack of advanced radiotherapy treatment techniques. This study aimed at evaluating the performance of relatively available technique in developing countries (Three- Dimensional Conformal Radiotherapy, 3D-CRT) compared to Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) in the treatment of different stages of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (NPC). Forty NPC patients were selected and divided into two equal groups according to their diagnostic stages. The dosimetric performance of three different planning techniques; 3D-CRT, 7-field IMRT (7F-IMRT) and 9-field IMRT (9F-IMRT) were compared. The dose prescriptions were 70 and 66 delivered in 35 fractions to the sites of gross Planning Target Volume (PTV1) and bilateral retropharyngeal carcinoma (PTV2), respectively. Dose data for all of the three investigated planning techniques obeyed the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) protocol no. 0615 (with few exceptions in 3D-CRT of Organs at Risk, OARs)
