Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Tropical Medicine Summary: Background & Aim: Leishmaniasis is anemerging public health problem in 98 endemic countries around the world, where cutaneous leishmaniasis is its most commen form. In Egypt, foci of cutaneous leishmaniasis are present in Sinai, Suez and new strains recently developed at North coast.Patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis have one or several long-lasting skin lesions, some are very disfiguring. It is mostly diagnosed in Egypt by history and clinical examination only . Several methods of treatment are used including local and systemic pentavalent antimony compounds (sodium stibogluconate).The aim of the study: to Assess the effectiveness of treatment of cutaneous leishmaniasis with intralesional sodium stibogluconate (antimonial compounds) with or without intramuscular injection in a group of Egyptian patients presented to Almaza military hospital diagnosed as cutaneous leishmaniasis. Methods: 50 Egyptian male patients presented to Almaza military hospital from june 2018 to December 2018 suspected as cutaneous leishmaniasis. They were subjected to full history, clinical examination and labs. They were divided into 2 groups according to feseability of taking a skin biopsy to confirm their diagnosis. Patients were treated using intralesional sodium stibogluconate, intramuscular or both and were followed up after 3 months to assess the response of treatment clinically and laboratory
