Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics Summary: Objective To study incidence of uterine niche following cesarean section, evaluate its shape, risk factors and its relationship with postmenstrual spotting. Design The study is a prospective controlled study. Setting: The department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Cairo University Hospital, Egypt. Population: non-pregnant women delivered by cesarean section within 3-6 months. Methods Transvaginal sonography (TVS) and saline infusion sonography (SIS) were performed 3-6 months after cesarean section and compared to those who delivered vaginally within the same time period. Hysteroscopic evaluation was done after for patients with postmenstrual spotting. Main outcome measures Incidence of a niche 3-6 months after cesarean section using TVS and SIS. Secondary outcomes: precipitating factors for niche, niche characteristics, relation to postmenstrual spotting and isthmocele development on hysteroscopic evaluation
