Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Architectural Engineering
This thesis presents a proposal for designing rural desert dwellings in Egypt using Passive Ground Cooling techniques. Eight design prototypes - of sunken courtyard rural houses incorporating an (EAHE) system using stabilized earth blocks as building material- were proposed. Annual patterns of soil temperature variations were calculated then prototypes were tested and evaluated using Design Builder V.5. The results showed that the proposed prototypes reduce 43 to 81% of energy consumption compared to contemporary rural desert housing projects
