Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologhy Summary: This study was conducted to fabricate a portland cement based scaffold for bone tissue engineering. In order to achieve this aim Portland cement powder was mixed with different concentrations of hydrogen peroxide (10% and 20%) that was considered a porogen creating pores within the scaffold. Also, mixing was performed in different powder / liquid ratios (2:1, 1.75:1, 1.5:1 and 1.25:1). Regarding the compressive strength, the scaffolds fabricated with 10% hydrogen peroxide concentration mixed with Portland cement powder in powder/ liquid ratio 2:1showed the significantly highest values. The average porosity and the mean pore sizes of this group of were evaluated. Results showed that this group has an average porosity of 52.88±0.846%. this group was selected as the control group to evaluate the effect of adding calcium sulfate on the degradation of the scaffold. Calcium sulfate powder was added to the powder portion of the mixture in different percentages(15%, 20% and 25%)
