Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Pediatrics Summary: Background and aim Asthma is a common disease in children. The beta-2 adrenergic receptor (Ý2 adrenoreceptor), is a cell membrane receptor that interacts with epinephrine, a hormone and neurotransmitter whose signaling, mediates physiologic responses such as smooth muscle relaxation and bronchodilation. The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of Ý2 AR {u2013} 16 polymorphism on the risk , severity of bronchial asthma, atopic manifestations , and nocturnal symptoms among Egyptian children . Subjects and methods This is a cross sectional study included 77 children with varying degree of severity, aged 2 to12 years following up in pulmonology outpatient clinic in Children Hospital Cairo University and seventy five healthy age and sex matched children.Determination of codon 16 beta 2 adrenergic receptor polymorphism by PCR- RFLP (polymerase chain reaction{u2013} restriction fragment length polymorphism) was done
