Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Architectural Engineering
This thesis presents a brief introduction to sustainable and green built environment to show its major effect on our comfort, productivity, and the whole surrounding environment. So, it must be taken into consideration during design and construction of the built environment, as the first contact layer between indoor and outdoor spaces is the building envelope. Its design and materials selection can lead to energy efficiency and thermal comfort. So, this paper will focus on sustainable building materials with proper thermal energy storage, like phase change materials through studying its properties, applications, advantages and disadvantages, and previous case studies or applications to know how to make our choice where its selection depend on the location and needed thermal comfort which could be tested on simulation tool like 2DesignBuilder3 to see how much savings have been achieved in cooling and heating energy consumption
